Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy has become one of the most talked-about treatments in the aesthetics world — and with good reason. Often referred to as the "vampire facial," PRP uses your body's own natural healing mechanisms to rejuvenate the skin from within, making it one of the most natural approaches to skin renewal available today.
What is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. The treatment involves drawing a small amount of your own blood, processing it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and then reinjecting the plasma into the treatment area. These concentrated platelets are rich in growth factors that stimulate cell renewal, collagen production, and tissue repair.
What are the benefits?
PRP treatment offers a wide range of benefits for the skin, hair, and body:
- Collagen stimulation — PRP naturally boosts collagen production, improving skin firmness and elasticity over time
- Improved skin texture — fine lines, pore size, and rough patches are visibly refined
- Natural glow — by promoting cell turnover, PRP restores radiance and a healthy, dewy finish
- Reduced scarring — particularly effective for acne scars and stretch marks
- Hair restoration — PRP applied to the scalp can stimulate dormant hair follicles and support thicker regrowth
- Hand rejuvenation — restores volume and improves skin quality on the backs of the hands
What does the treatment involve?
The treatment begins with a blood draw, similar to a routine blood test. The sample is then placed into a centrifuge which separates the platelets from the rest of the blood. This takes around 10 minutes.
The concentrated PRP is then either injected into the skin using fine needles or applied topically in combination with microneedling, depending on the treatment area and your individual plan. The whole process usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour.
Is there any downtime?
One of the great advantages of PRP is that downtime is minimal. You may experience some redness and mild swelling for 24 to 48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn. Most clients return to their normal activities the same day or the following morning.
Results develop gradually over the weeks following treatment as your body produces new collagen and tissue. Most clients notice a visible improvement after 2 to 4 weeks, with optimal results at around 3 months. A course of 3 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, is often recommended for best results.
"PRP is one of the most rewarding treatments we offer because the results are entirely your own — no foreign substances, just your body doing what it does best."
Who is PRP suitable for?
PRP is suitable for most adults looking to improve their skin quality naturally. It's an excellent option for those who prefer a treatment that doesn't involve synthetic fillers or toxins. It's particularly popular with clients seeking to address early signs of ageing, dull skin, or uneven texture.
At Bailey's Clinic, we offer PRP for the face, scalp, and hands. If you're curious about whether PRP is right for you, a consultation is the best place to start.
